about

The Aura-Glyph Album was recorded live during the Jazz Revolutions and Live @ The Warehouse Concert Series 2011-2012. Both concert series were produced by Anderson at his studio venture the Muse Creative Workspace- a 7000 sqft loft and sanctuary for improvised acoustic music. www.musecreativeworkspace.com

This album features the impromptu nature of the ensemble's output during this time period while capturing Anderson with some of his favorite artists at work during public studio concerts in Richmond's Shockhoe Bottom where the studio is located. The arrangements are free flowing while highlighting a strong African texture with each member of the ensemble contributing to a unique collective voice of improvisations. The title track Aura-Glyph- Movements 2 and 3-show how the ensemble takes the same material and expresses the moment of the music on two separate occassions.

The album title refers to sound or music as a communication tool or symbol -hence the title Aura( sound) Glyph( symbol). Only those listening will truly get the message encoded by way of sonic vibrations. As with any form of communication, it has two components -the sound and the listener, the sender and the receiver, the speaker and the audience. Both can at any time become the other as information fed back from the receiver now makes the sender the audience. So there you have it. This album is a documentation of that process-a group of musicians communicating to a community of people using the non verbal language of instruments to transmit the unspeakable while the audience' applause communicates to the group of musicians that the message was well received.-an ancient ritual performed again that renews the spirit of the community.
